One party for material and application
For anyone specifying Clayworks in the UAE, the supply chain is unusually short. Earth Layers Building Contracting LLC, based in Dubai Industrial City, is the sole authorised distributor and approved applicator for Clayworks across the Middle East. The plaster and the people who apply it come from the same company — there is no separate applicator to source, vet or coordinate, and no gap between the material warranty and the workmanship.
That structure exists because clay plaster is a craft material. It rewards good preparation and correct technique, and it shows every shortcut. The artisans who apply our finishes are on our own payroll, not subcontracted, and they work to the application methods approved by the manufacturer. When Earth Layers signs the finishes package, one party answers for the bag of material and the finished wall alike.
The Clayworks clay plaster range
Clayworks clay plaster comes as a family of finishes, and we stock and install the full range: Smooth, Demi Rustic, Rustic, Tonal, Tadelakt, Clay on Brick and the Rammed Earth Finish — a 7–10 mm plaster that gives interior walls the banded strata of tamped earth. Each finish carries a different texture and reads differently under Gulf light; our clay plaster page sets them out in detail.
One boundary is worth stating early. Clay plaster is for interior walls and ceilings only — never floors, and never zones with direct water contact. For bathrooms, hammams and splash zones we switch to tadelakt and lime; our guide to lime plaster and tadelakt in the UAE explains where each material belongs.
And if the strata look is the goal, the choice between structural rammed earth and the Rammed Earth Finish plaster comes down to build-up, budget and programme — we compare the two options in rammed earth vs rammed earth plaster.
A Clayworks distributor for the whole Middle East
The agreement covers the region, not just one emirate. Earth Layers is the Dubai arm of Conmarble Natural Finishes, working alongside sister companies Building Layers in Saudi Arabia and Conmarble Concrete in Qatar. A specification written in Dubai can therefore be delivered in Riyadh or Doha by the same group, with the same materials and the same application standards.
Clay is a material you should see and touch before you specify it. Our showroom on Al Urubah Road in Riyadh presents the finishes at full scale and is open by appointment; for UAE projects we bring sample boards to your office or to site.
Proven on Dubai projects
Two published Dubai projects show what the material can do at both ends of the spectrum. At Villa 515, we applied Clayworks clay plaster throughout a restaurant interior designed by NON studio — the Demi Rustic finish in a custom yellow is pictured above. At the Canvas Events Pavilion, the brief was exterior clay plaster across a curved white facade.
Both sit within a wider Gulf portfolio of specialist finishes — from a complete rammed earth pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha, which took the Gold Award for Best Self-Built Pavilion, to 9,000 m² of microcement at the King Fahad Cultural Centre in Riyadh. The full record is on our projects page.
Which Clayworks finish suits which room?
The range is not one plaster with different colours in it — the finishes differ in texture, in how the trowel is worked and in where they belong. Smooth is the quietest of them: a flat, even mineral surface that reads as depth of colour rather than texture, and the usual choice for bedrooms, galleries and anywhere the wall should recede.
Demi Rustic and Rustic carry progressively more movement, with the aggregate and trowel marks left legible in the surface. They hold light well on large uninterrupted walls, which is why they turn up in hospitality — the Villa 515 restaurant in Dubai uses Demi Rustic in a custom yellow through the dining space.
Tonal grades one colour into another across a wall. Clay on Brick is applied over exposed masonry so the brick geometry stays readable under the clay. Tadelakt is the burnished lime finish for wet rooms, and Rammed Earth Finish, at 7 to 10 mm, gives interior walls the strata of a rammed earth wall without the thickness of one.
All of them are interior finishes for walls and ceilings. Exterior work uses a dedicated exterior clay system — the kind applied at the Canvas Events Pavilion in Dubai — and direct-water zones go to tadelakt or lime. If you are unsure which sits where, the clay plaster page sets out the full range with photography.
Specifying through a clay plaster supplier in Dubai
Beyond the aesthetic, clay does quiet, measurable work in a room. Clay walls help hold interiors between 40 and 60 per cent relative humidity, and the material has nothing to off-gas. Natural finishes of this kind contribute to WELL, LEED and Mostadam scorecards — a practical point for developers as much as a wellbeing one, and the thinking behind our slogan: "Wellness, in Every Surface".
